Anaheim Ducks Dedicate New Wing at CHOC

I had the huge honor of hosting the Anaheim Ducks – including my pal Wild Wing – here at CHOC for the dedication of the new Anaheim Ducks wing on the hospital’s oncology floor.  The wing includes a playroom/school room, teen room with a flat screen TV and electronic games, staff lounge,  family room and storage space.  It has the coolest graphics on the walls – they make you feel like you are right there on the ice with the players.  The teen room is great for our teen and adolesecent patients, encouraging them to hang out with each other.  As part of the CHOC Children’s Cancer Institute’s Adolescent and Young Adult Program, the hospital wanted to create an environment that would help make teen cancer patients still feel like teens.  Allowing these patients to hang out with each other versus with younger patients or with adults at adult facilities is much better for them psychologically, too.

Here I am pictured with Wild Wing and Dr. Sender, the medical director of the CHOC Children’s Cancer Institute.

CHOC Night at the Honda Center

CHOC Night at the Honda Center
Okay, so ask me how cool it is to ride the Zamboni! I had a blast at CHOC Night at the Honda Center. Fun and excitement filled the air at as the Ducks took on the Calgary Flames. Limited edition “CHOCO” bears dressed in replica jerseys autographed by Ducks players, were a big hit again this year – with 1,000 bears sold! CHOC patients got to ride on the Zamboni, too, and one was named Honorary Duck. In addition, giveaways were distributed at the entrances and large poles were on display for visitors to sign encouraging messages for our patients. In a partnership with the Orange County Register, CHOC received a $1 donation for every spectator who text messaged “Go Kid Go” from their cell phone. All of the proceeds raised that night benefit CHOC and CHOC at Mission.

I sure had a great time–I got to hang out with the kids, the Ducks and of course my pal Wild Wing–he’s one crazy duck! In fact, Wild Wing and I have so much fun we made a video together. Click here to check it out.
